February vacation is an exciting time for kids and parents as school is out for a week allowing families to spend more time together. Why not spend some time in Lexington?

Fun Stores to Check Out

There are two stores in Lexington we recommend you and your kids explore, especially during school vacation week. Check out Omar’s World of Comics, where you’ll find a large collection of Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Boom, and other comic books. There are also board games, trading cards, and other fun little knick-knacks to purchase. The Maxima Gift Center is another Lexington favorite for adults and little ones alike. This family-owned bookstore is the prime destination for unique and eclectic gifts for everyone. Browse the gift center’s book collection, toys, bath and body items, and board games.

Special Events at the Buckman and Munroe Taverns

During school vacation week, the Buckman and Munroe Taverns will be hosting two different events for kids. On February 18, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Buckman Tavern, you’ll find the special event “Lighting the Way: An Apprentice Historian Program for Grades 3-5.” Students will learn how to make a working candle from beeswax and a lantern from tin, explore the tavern, and uncover writing and objects to learn about how people lived before the invention of electric light.

On February 20, 2025 at 10:00 am, the Munroe Tavern will host “Science and Medicine: An Apprentice Historian Program for Grades 6-7.” Kids will learn how people from the 18th century did simple chores like writing a letter, working in the barn, or caring for a sick person using chemistry and physics. Participants will become household scientists by making medicine from grinding herbs from the garden and observing chemical reactions when making ink and butter.

Candy, Ice Cream, and Other Sweets to Eat

Indulging in a sweet treat is always a good idea! Lexington offers several shops where you can enjoy pastries, candies, and ice cream. While it may be February, it’s never too cold for some ice cream at Rancatore’s Ice Cream & Yogurt or Abbott’s Frozen Custard. Or you can head on over to Nouve, Sweet Thyme Bakery, and other cafes around the area to grab a warm drink and a pastry. For those looking for colder drinks, you can visit Coco Fresh Tea, where you’ll find a large selection of bubble tea.

The fun doesn’t stop in Lexington! Once it hits February school vacation, make sure to bring your kids to Lexington to explore everything we have to offer.
